FIRE DEPARTMENT NEEDS VOLUNTEERS!
The Fire Department is always looking for new members. They are looking for men and women to serve as active firefighters. They can also use help with administrative, fund raising, fire prevention and public relations events. Boys and girls 16 years of age and older can join as Junior members. As Juniors they can begin to work on their basic firefighting skills, and assist in fund raising, fire prevention, public relations, and providing support services on the fireground. Currently there is a shortage of Special Fire Police officers. These members support the Fire Department by directing traffic at the scene of fire calls. They also assist the Police Department with traffic control at the scene of vehicle accidents. The Fire Department provides all of the required equipment and pays for training--volunteers provide their time and dedication. Please visit the Fire Department at www.upperallenfire.com and download an application, or stop by the station at 104 Gettysburg Pike.
STOP/YIELD SIGN CHANGES Approved by Board of Commissioners
The Township hired Grove Miller Engineering to conduct a study of existing Stop/Yield signs at all intersections in the Township and to recommend what signs, if any, should be changed. A complete list of the recommended changes is available by clicking on link: Stop/Yield Sign Changes.

DOES YOUR HOME HAVE A BELOW GRADE RESTROOM OR FLOOR DRAIN?
If your basement has a below grade restroom or floor drain, please call the Township office and ask to speak to the Sewer System Secretary. The Township has experienced several sewer backups with restroom facilities and floor drains located in basements and would like ensure your property does not experience a similar problem. Properties with below grade restrooms and floor drains will be placed on a regular inspection program to ensure backups are mitigated in these areas. The Township will use television equipment to inspect the laterals of all reported properties to help prevent a sewer backup from occurring.
OPERATION WILDCAT
In the spring of 2006, the Mechanicsburg Area School District (MASD) PTOs and Parent Advisory Committee members began Operation Wildcat to pool the resources of the community to help local students and families in need on an on-going basis. As the identified needs of our community have grown, so have Operation Wildcat’s projects. Over the summer Project Back to School bins were distributed throughout the school district at various businesses. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we collected hundreds of items that will be available for students as needed throughout the school year.
Other projects include Project Clothes (collection of new or gently used clothing for students and families in need), Project Thanksgiving (collection of food, turkey certificates, gift cards, and cash to fill “baskets” containing provisions for a Thanksgiving dinner), Project Gift Box (collection of holiday gift wish items), Project Bikes (collection of new and used bikes for distribution to students), Project Resources (resource booklet containing information and contacts for local agencies and assistance for families in need), Project Smile (improvement of the dental services available to district students), and Project Yard Sales (money raised through Operation Wildcat yard sales are turned into gift cards for families as needed).
For up to date information on Operation Wildcat, visit the MASD website at www.mbgsd.org. To get involved in Operation Wildcat, contact Leslie Collins (phone: 795-7372 or email: mommagic@comcast.net) or any project coordinator as listed on the website.
