Mt Allen Drive & Aspen Drive Road Improvement Update

Hempt Brothers will begin milling Mt. Allen Drive starting at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, followed by preparation for curbs on Wednesday, August 6, and the installation of stone base on Thursday, August 7 and finishing up by 12/noon on Friday, August 8. During this time period driveway access will be restricted.

During the initial stages of the road project storm water pipe and ADA ramps were installed at various locations along Aspen Drive and Mt Allen Drive. The next phase of the project includes the installation of curbs, sidewalks (on west side of road from Nittany Drive to Kim Acres Drive) and preparing the roadway for paving from Nittany Drive to just past Pennington Drive. We apologize for the inconvenience. Mt Allen Drive and Aspen Drive is on schedule to be substantially complete by September 3, 2014.

Cumberland County Commissioners Close Bishop Bridge

The Cumberland County Commissioners closed Bishop Bridge to all traffic effective June 30, 2014 until funding becomes available to repair or replace the bridge. Repairs to the bridge are estimated at approximately $500,000. According to Cumberland County Planning Department, the shortest timeframe to reopen the bridge even if funding was available today would be nearly three years due to PennDOT and Corps of Engineer approvals. The timeframe for full replacement is in excess of $3 million and 5 years.

Cumberland County owns 28 bridges throughout the county. At least 12 of the 28 bridges are structurally deficient and in need of repair or replacement. Due to the limited vehicular traffic on Bishop Bridge, which is estimated at 145 trips per day, it is not high on the priority list for funding.

Please click here for the official detour map.
